Cheta Emba, 28, says she didn’t start playing rugby until she was 20.
Initially, rugby was a good way to cross-train for her role as goalkeeper on Harvard’s women’s soccer team. But it was rugby, not soccer, that is bringing the Richmond, Va., native to her first Olympics this summer (she was an alternate in 2016).
Emba has a degree in molecular and cellular biology from Harvard, and is a fluent Spanish speaker. She says she loves the outdoors and “coffee, cooking, reading, and a good whiskey.”
Emba told @myvpm that the move from soccer to rugby offered her “the opportunity again, to kind of open up, stretch the legs, be creative in a different way.”
Emba celebrated her birthday in Tokyo.
